In 2020, Gillette Children’s became home to the first EOSedge™ imaging installation in the United States. "The EOSedge is a low-dose 3D imaging system that reduces radiation exposure to our spine patients and offers state-of-the-art imaging and planning tools to our surgical team," says Gillette spine surgeon, Joseph Perra, M.D.
The advanced technology of EOSedge allows for full-body imaging in just 15 seconds, providing valuable information that helps our specialists diagnose, plan for and treat complex spine conditions while exposing your child to minimal radiation.
This means your child’s care team can get the imaging data they need without the increased risk for cancer that can potentially result from repeat high-radiation exposure. It’s one of the many ways we continue to innovate and provide your child with the safest possible care.

Magnetic Expansion Control (MAGEC) rods work similar to traditional growing rods, which help treat scoliosis. MAGEC rods differ in that they only need to be inserted once, and can be lengthened in a noninvasive way using a remote control and magnets.
Spinal fusion permanently joins two or more vertebrae together to help straighten a crooked spine, improve breathing and reduce back pain.
This technique is a less invasive alternative to spinal fusion that uses an anchor and screw placed into the spine to straighten it over time. It’s most often used to treat scoliosis.
Vertical Expandable Prosthetic Titanium Rib (VEPTR) surgery, primarily used to treat thoracic insufficiency syndrome and scoliosis, can help better position your child’s chest, spine and ribs, giving more space to the lungs.
